Not sure if this is the correct forum for this message, but have to start somewhere. I had this crazy (my wife seems to think so) idea of reaching out to the sailing community.
I have this adventurous spirit and have an absolute need to get back on the water. I say back on the water, because 25 years ago I was a commercial diver in the oilfields of LA, and the Gulf Coast in general. I grew up on the Gulf Coast in Mobile, spent 13 years in Florida as an adult. I left for the corporate world, met my wife, and we've moved around a bit. We've been landlocked for 13 years and it's killing me.
I'm a young, fit, 48 year old man who doesn't know much (if anything) about sailing, but am a quick learner, with sharp eye on detail and good work ethic. Advanced Scuba Cert/Former Commercial Diver/Instrument Rated Private Pilot with Complex and Hi Performance experience. I mention the creds to illustrate what makes me tick. Just like us pilots who always turn our gaze skyward, I have turned my gaze to the sea.
Why is this significant? I'm looking for a ride somewhere, anywhere, next Spring or Summer. I'll be your deckhand, cleaning the bilge, hoisting the mainsail (did I say that right?), and walking the plank. Will pay my own expenses and even provide the boat with a few bottles of wine. My kids are old enough now and my wife said, "go have fun."
Hopefully this is enough info to get the conversation started, so please reply with any interest or need for an extra set of hands. Not looking for an extended trip, I still have bills to pay and family to raise, but something in 7-10 day range. David
