I am pretty disappointed in the configuration of the current course being used in San Francisco. After watching all the of the races, it is quite evident that, most of the time, the boat that takes the pin (which is also usually the boat entering the starting area first) will quickly scoot down to the first mark and have the inside at the rounding. WHAT KIND OF RACING IS THAT? Why couldn't they have devised a course with a more traditional beat to windward off the starting line, and a much longer leg at that? At least then the first mark would not be a "given", being decided usually most of the time before the gun has even gone off.
Shaking my head in Virginia.
