Manroland Tornado World Championship 2010 – Don’t miss the action!!!!
When: 23 – 30 July
Where: Travemunde, Germany
The Lubeck Bay is not only welcoming the 121st edition of the Travemunder Week but also the most exciting of all the cats: The Tornado class is hosting there its 2010 World Championship.
50 Tornados will take to the waters to show the spectators, media and sponsors what action and fun is all about. It will be a great show to all while the crews battle for the 2010 World Champion title.
Young and mixed crews will be competing side by side with experienced Olympic, World and European Champions the likes of Germans Roland Gaebler and the Sachs brothers, and Greek Iordanis Paschalidis and Trigonis Konstantinos.
The first day of racing is scheduled to Sunday 25th July. A few teams went off sailing today as the day started off with a light breeze that built in the afternoon but most have been setting their boats up and going through the measurement process.
The Tornados will also be providing lots of action on Saturday 24th July and Sunday 25th July, after the official races, at the Sailing Arena Trave. Right at the mouth of River Trave, meters away from the shore and in sight of thousands of spectators, short and fast races will be sailed and broadcasted lively by commentators. That is great Tornado sailing being made easy and available to watch for all.

Manroland Tornado World Championship 2010 – Day 2
One day perfect, the other built up to be but still 2 races were sailed and 2 bullets for Germans mixed crew Roland and Nahid Gaebler.
No wind this morning at Travemunde so the racing was postponed a few times.
Not good on the water but great off it: during the morning Greek Olympic sailor Kostas Trigonis helped the sailors and told them about the boat and gave them tuning tips. He also ran a very successful questions and answers session and had crowds around their Red Bull Tornado. (Photos on Facebook)
The postponement came down at around 2.45 for a first warning signal at 4pm. The breeze built as the competitors made their way out to the race area.
Two clean starts off the line for the Tornados. The wind was around 7 knots to start with but built up to around 15 knots when the competitors were already back on the shore. The steady breeze gave the spectators some good fast action to watch, two German TV crews were also out on the water watching the races and the Tornados did not let them down!
Race one was won by Roland and Nahid again, on the second race they did not have a good start but managed to tack away into clean air to claim another victory in race 5.
Another mixed team grabbing the attention are also Germans Christina Loweg and Florian Loweg. They have been flying and their boat looks very well trimmed. They are currently sitting in sixth place and claimed a third in race 5.

Manroland Tornado World Championship 2010 – Day 3
No wind, no racing but a great party for the Tornados on Day 3 of the Worlds.
Not a lot of news as the wind did not make an appearance but that wasn’t all bad as it gave sailors time for lots of boat fixing and chilling out around the boat park.
The main sponsor Manroland offered the crews and guests a great VIP evening with a full BB, buffet and free flowing beer all night. The photos from the races were on show, live band was playing and everybody was having a terrific time.
The weather forecast for Wednesday is light winds again: 4-7 knots in the morning and 6-9 knots for the afternoon. So it will be back to work no matter the size of the hangover!
