I was told about this site by a buddy over at SA so I thought I'd come over and throw down a challenge. We have a thing going on called a Global Regatta that is turning out to be pretty fun (several guys on a couple of the other forums are in it thus far with courses in Maryland, Maine, Pennsylvania, Texas, British Columbia, etc.).
Basically, if one doesn't already exist, you set up a fixed-distance, triangular course in your area (5nm Short Course or 10nm Long Course) using at least 2 GPS coordinate marks and no more than 1 physical mark. You then take your boat out (whatever it is you sail - racer or 4ksb) and run this "invisible" course(s) in your area any time you want, as often as you want, solo or crewed, by yourself or with a group, and in whatever conditions you want. You send us your GPS track for your best time and if it rocks, you go up on the Leader Board. Then, at the end of the year, we compare the best times for each boat class on the Short and Long Courses across the world. Fastest times win. Easy!
It's just down and dirty underground racing and is really a lot of fun. And, best part is, it's completely free. HERE'S A LINK to info if you want to join in.
You'll notice that two SA racers have the lead in SailC and SailD Short Course standings. They need some competition and I suck too much at this point in my "career" to run them down. So whaddayagot?
Let me know if you guys have any questions...and/or smack talk. Now let's race!
(PS - As a disclaimer, I own the BFS site - which started out of big sailing stories we tossed around on another forum. Rest assured, the GR is free and there is no obligation at all for entry. We just came up with the GR idea because we wanted people to have an informal, fun way to race each other.)

I am in. I am going to try and get in a run in the next week. We have our regular club race on Sunday, but if there is some good wind one weekday I will take a run at it then.
Sweet! Sail fast dude!
Okay - seriously, nobody else? Don't people race around here?
If TQ can make time between conjugal visits, surely you blokes can step up.
BTW - I'll have our motor and sails back on the boat for this weekend. So look out chumps! The Smacktanic is coming....slowly.
